
Wendy Chavez
Economist, Researcher
An economist who graduated from the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) — Higher Polytechnic School of the Coast in Guayaquil, Ecuador. She holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and Fiscal Policy from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, USA, and a master’s degree in Human Settlements from KU Leuven in Belgium.
Currently, she is a junior researcher and PhD student in Political and Cultural Change at the Center for Development Research at the University of Bonn. Since 2018, her research has focused on the ecosystem of the Gulf of Guayaquil. Her professional experience spans Ecuadorian academia, the government sector, civil society organizations, and international collaborations in scientific research.
Wendy is a founding member of the Observatory of Public Policy of Guayaquil. She also volunteers as the Academic Coordinator for Fundación Cerro Verde, a local NGO that works actively with ancestral communities in the Gulf of Guayaquil to conserve the mangrove ecosystem.
